If you are looking for something original and fun for your friends and family, check out Memphis Mystery Tours. My family and I did a Tour Saturday and had a blast. It was so much fun to see more of downtown Memphis. Even though I have lived in the area for over a decade, Memphis Mystery Tours showed me more of what makes Memphis a unique, music-oriented, cultural city that has lots to offer. The Tour was a a great way to spend some time with friends and family doing something different and very interactive. I am always looking for fun things to do that include some physical activity and conversation rather than just being parked in front of a game or watching a movie. The team that put on our tour did a good job of revealing clues that lead us to the next spot, eager to see what might be around the next corner. Next time we have company from out of town, we will definitely treat them to a Tour."

Downtown Memphis whodunit takes group on journey to solve the ‘crime’

The Commercial Appeal 2009.10.09

Every good detective story has a woman of mystery, but a music-themed gumshoe plot unfolding on the streets of Downtown Memphis has two.

Kaylah Holland, 22, and her mother, Sherry, 48, both from Hernando, decided earlier this year to transform a family party game into a business called Memphis Mystery Tours.

“They have these mystery tours in larger cities like New York, San Francisco and Chicago,” said Kaylah. “But with our city being a music-based city, we thought it would go over really well here. ”

Sherry explained that homemade mysteries are a family pastime. Some of their games have taken on the form of reality TV shows like “The Amazing Race” and “Fear Factor.”

That’s similar to the premise for the Memphis Mystery Tours.

“We just took it to the next level,” said Kaylah, who recently graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in literature.

Tour-goers purchase their tickets at memphismysterytours.com and receive a phone message the day before the tour with the location of the starting point. The Hollands designed the tour with both locals and tourists in mind.
